My Role

I was the Creative Director of the UBC Biztech Club in 2017.

I was in charge of leading the creative vision for the UBC Biztech club for the year of 2017, and created all print, and web materials for the club. As a student organization, our mission at Biztech was to be more than just a club; it was to cultivate a supportive community of students passionate about technology, regardless of their area of study. To cultivate this community, we strove to provide impactful learning opportunities, enduring relationships, and interactive industry engagements.

Blueprint Conference

Blueprint is our annual flagship technology conference which brings in around 150 students every year. It is our largest event of the year, and aims to inspire and educate students on how technology can make lasting contributions to society.

MY VISION

For 2017, the creative vision I designed for Blueprint was to go beyond the everyday visuals seen on and around campus by other clubs, and deliver something that was more eye-catching, gripping, and captivating. I used textures and colours to evoke subtle emotional responses in the viewer, such as intrigue and excitement for the upcoming conference.

Part 1 of 7: Print Posters

These were posters designed to be printed and put up on bulletin boards, walls, and pillars around campus.

  • The top emotions I designed these posters to invoke were allurement, and excitement.

  • For students unaware of what Biztech was, these posters were meant to spread awareness about Biztech, and pique curiosity about Biztech.

Part 3 of 7: Blueprint Conference Logo

Every year the Biztech team creates a logo for the Blueprint Conference.

  • This year, I decided to turn the old Biztech logo into the Blueprint Conference logo by redesigning it as being made from circuits.

  • My thought process behind this was that the Blueprint Conference's whole basis is to show each student that they each have a "blueprint" for their path in life, and they can choose to design this blueprint however they wish. Therefore if each student had a blueprint, the original Biztech logo also had a blueprint of what it was made up of, and where it would go in the future. Thus, I chose to visualize this "blueprint" of the logo as circuits.

  • My final touch on the logo was to overlay the same textures I had been using on the marketing materials on top of the new logo made out of circuits, to keep the styling consistent.
